David Schmetterling is CTO and Co-Founder of Rehearsals, where he leads engineering for the company’s AI twin simulation platform.
Before Rehearsals, he spent years at Wayfair as both a hands-on engineer and engineering leader across computer vision, mobile, and product engineering. He led Wayfair’s Computer Vision team and later the Explore App team, shipping consumer-facing AI and AR experiences at scale.
His work included driving early adoption of generative AI across engineering and building object-detection systems for visually similar recommendations and Search With Photo that generated millions of dollars in incremental revenue. He also worked on View in Room 3D, Wayfair’s augmented-reality shopping experience featured by Apple at WWDC.
At Wayfair, David also built and led engineering teams and helped grow a new engineering organization from zero to more than 15 engineers. His work has spanned applied machine learning, mobile architecture, and full-stack product development, giving him experience taking ambitious technical ideas from prototype through production at scale.
He earned a B.S. in Computer Science from Boston College and is an alumnus of a16z Speedrun. At Rehearsals, he brings that combination of applied AI, product engineering, and technical leadership to building the systems behind the company.
